Want to do a guy's book study on "God's Gift to Women"?

From God's Gift to Women: Discovering the Lost Greatness of Masculinity:

Product Description
In a culture that exalts the caveman-like qualities of masculinity, most women have stopped expecting anything more. Young men are taught to view women as slaves to their self-centered desires. More than ever, men need to know that they can rise above this sad mediocrity. They desperately need someone to recognize their potential for blending courage and kindness, strength and spiritual sensitivity. With its riveting vision of Christ-centered manhood, God's Gift to Women shows young men how to become the heroic, selfless knight that every woman dreams about.

(REAL NAME)
I'm a 20-year-old girl, but as an avid reader of Eric and Leslie Ludy's other books, I wanted to see what Eric had to say in "God's Gift to Women." I just finished reading it, and all I can say is, "Amen! Preach it, Eric!" If guys would take to heart what Eric says in this book, the world would be filled with happy women! I recommend that every guy read this book, and find the secret to winning a woman's heart (it's not flowers and chocolate, but those do help! :)). Eric did forget to mention one of the most key elements of being a warrior poet: opening the door for ladies, especially your mom and sister! Otherwise, he covered all the bases. So whether you haven't a clue at how to be tender to a woman, or you think you have it all figured out, you guys need to read this book. It will point you towards the path of becoming God's Gift to Women.

P.S. Girls, if you want to read this book, go right ahead! It's obviously geared towards guys, but I got a lot out of it as well. It helped me understand our "wild at heart" men a bit better, and gave me a vision of the kind of man I'm waiting for: a tender warrior poet.

Let us know what you think! :)

Elijah's Notes from Andy Stanley - Session 2 - Defining Moments - May 24, 2009

Andy Stanley - Session 2 - Defining Moments - May 24, 2009

  • Defining moment: Thought hit me: "There are a lot of men who would love to open their garage doors and see children's toys, but there are none there."
  • For every distortion you have about God there is a corresponding consequence.
  • You've got to stand there in it until your eyes adjust.
  • Good people will never necessarily enter the Kingdom.
  • John 3:1-16
    • Nicodemus: "member of the Jewish ruling council"
      • very wealthy
      • very connected
      • this guy has a lot at stake
      • last thing he wants is a religious leader causing an uprising that would get the attention of Rome
      • "Rabbi"
        • A term of respect
      • comes to conclusion that Jesus was religious person from God. He doesn't believe Jesus is God
      • coming to Jesus to get insight on God's kingdom
    • Jesus knew the hearts of men and knew what they were going to ask and would start telling a parable or story on the very thing they were going to ask.
    • put on your welder's helmet Nicodemus, it's going to get bright...
    • born again ~= born from above
    • physical birth does not gain you access into God's Kingdom
    • Jesus is saying: being born physically is not enough
    • Nicodemus believed that if you were related to Abraham, you were in.
    • Nicodemus pauses and realizes that maybe there is something I don't know. Maybe I've been wrong...
      • "How can this be?"
      • Nicodemus believed like most of the world believes: that there is a cosmic scale in which some people have done really bad things, but we've done only little bad things that are outweighed by our good deeds.
        • "You're gooder than you are bad."
    • He began to understand that Jesus was not commenting on this system. Jesus wasn't giving more to do. What Jesus was talking about was something entirely different. You'll never ... enter God's Kingdom until you are born again.
      • It's nice to believe: "There's a good God, a good Heaven, I'm going: Let's get back to work."
    • Nicodemus: "The days of the scale are over, actually, the scale never worked to begin with... You don't get to Heaven by being good and keeping the law. You get to Heaven by placing your faith in me, the Son of Man, the Son of God."
    • John's writing it down years later and interjects his own thoughts: John's summary statement: "For God so loved..."
      • [Didn't Jesus say this to Nicodemus? I get the impression from Andy that this is John's summary, not Jesus words.]
    • In time N. came to believe that Jesus didn't just come from God, but was God.
    • Don't dredge up all those excuses because of what some English teacher told you in college that you've been rehersing for years. Don't just blindly believe someone who doesn't even care about you.
    • If this (just make good outweigh bad) is true: Then where's the list of what we need to do?
    • Read the book of Exodus, read the Gospels, consider it for yourself.
    • You'll come to conclusion that you've been trusting in something that doesn't make any sense at all.
    • The truth of what Jesus said will set you free.
    • Jesus taught: Good people don't go to Heaven, Forgiven people go to Heaven and forgiveness is found in the person of Jesus Christ.
